For the past 3 years, I have worked closely with Ludwig while at consumer electronics e-retailer Monoprice. He reported directly to me while I headed up the marketing organization as Vice President of Marketing. Ludwig’s initial title was Product Photographer, but I quickly came to realize that his capabilities ran beyond taking great pictures for our website and marketing materials. Ludwig regularly took the initiative to tackle tasks and projects that were outside the scope of his role, and he accomplished them very well. Despite his humble demeanor, it was clear that Ludwig had skills and experience with multi-media platforms and could generate deliverables that spanned web, print, video, physical display pieces, and even outdoor. Ludwig’s ability to get things done either independently or as a part of a team was indeed impressive.

As a result, I promoted Ludwig to the role of Media Production Supervisor and put him in charge of a three-person creative team. After moving into this new role, Ludwig continually raised both the level of the team’s output as well as the quality of the creative. He created a new process for generating e-mail campaigns that allowed us to cut the production time in half. He implemented an intuitive guideline for creating clean, modern display advertisements that could be changed out quickly. He coached our graphic designers and video production specialists to produce stylish and effective print and video marcom that helped elevate the Monoprice brand and boost awareness. Ludwig accomplished this all while still producing and cataloging hundreds of amazing product photos for use on our e-commerce site and other online channels.

I appreciated his recommendations about design concepts and quite often he would disagree on design direction only because, in the end, he was right. His viewpoints often prevailed. Despite many years in creating collaterals myself, I certainly did not want a “yes person” when the direction was off the mark.

Ludwig has an eye for color, spatial placement, and design flow. This was evident in the packaging concepts he proposed and, with a few adjustments, all his work was accepted and put into print. Photography was also a skill he can certainly boast about along with his considerable ability to maneuver through complex software applications.
